Análisis

At the end of 2010, the number of active fixed telephone lines was 20.2 million, recording a slight year-on-year increase of 0.6%. The business segment reduced its number of fixed lines by 4.38%, while the number of lines in the household segment has varied very little: The total number of fixed lines in households by the end of 2010 was 13.2 million, only 1.4% more than in 2009.

In 2010, the penetration rate of fixed telephony by inhabitants, defined as the number of active fixed lines in households and businesses per 100 inhabitants, sited at 43%. The penetration rate recorded a slight decline with respect to 2009, due to the net loss experienced in the business segment and the population growth of over half a million inhabitants in 2010.

Average revenue per active line in 2010 was €290.9, 8.8% less than in 2009, continuing the downward trend in fixed telephony of the last years, notwithstanding the increases in revenues from registration and subscription fees. Average revenue per active line, only taking into account revenue from traffic, dropped by 8.4%, compared to the previous year, due to the price reduction of traffic-related services.
