Computer penetration in households

The percentage of households equipped with any type of computer (desktop computers, laptops and PDAs) keeps rising in Spanish households, reaching 71.5% in 2011, according to the results of the Survey on the Equipment and Use of Information and Communication Technologies in households, published by the INE.

By type of computer, 48.9% of households had desktop computers or PCs, while 48.8% had laptops. Between 2010 and 2011, a decrease of more than one point was observed in the level of PC equipment in households, and an increase of more than six points in laptops.

Observaciones

Study based on telephone and personal interviews. The theoretical sample size comprises 24,972 houses and 3,922 reserves. Therefore 28,894 houses have been visited. One person aged 15 years old or over is selected from each house; likewise, information is obtained on all children aged 10 to 15 years old residing in the family home. For 2002 and 2003, data refers to Spanish population aged 15 or over. From 2003 onwards, data refers to Spanish population aged 16-74.
