Last June 14th, 2010, the Ministerial Meeting on Information Society Policies and Metrics was held in Madrid, Spain, organised by the State Secretariat for Telecommunications and the Information Society, on the occasion of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union.
The final document resulting from the meeting reflects a constructive collaboration by the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council, the European Commission, OECD, ITU and Official Delegations from Member States that attended the event.
It recognises the need for Governments and International Organizations to strengthen their cooperation commitment and to allocate the appropriate resources and efforts for ICT measurement.
It also highlights the fact that the Information Society makes it possible to obtain better and more frequent data, thus allowing for a "virtuous circle" to be built right from the measurement stage to policy implementation.
